Is Fast Food The New Tobacco?

Image
What are your eating habits? Do you happen to grab a quick bite to eat every time you get out of school? What do you usually reach for, a salad or a McDonald’s meal? Fast food has become addictive to the majority of people due to the fact that it is accessible, affordable, and quick. People do not want to put in the work and do not want to take the time out of their day to satisfy their needs by making a healthy choice. Fast food will most likely become the new tobacco with time. The government will step in eventually, but only time will tell what and how they choose to use their power. As of right now, fast food and obesity is a personal issue and has always been a personal issue.  Fast food has become a major problem throughout the years but only due to the people themselves. Let’s think back to the 1990’s when almost every kid was told to go outside to play and to be back in time for dinner. Usually that dinner includes some protein, vegetables and the necessities. Is Pop Culture Good For You?

Image
People seem to have such a controversial opinion when it comes to the topic of pop culture. People often view pop culture as shallow entertainment. I personally think pop culture is a very important part in all of our lives in the present day. Even in the past, pop culture existed and was just as important. In Johnson's article, “Watching TV Makes You Smarter,” he states that pop culture tends to be a cognitive workout and that is why it is so important in our lives. In the ted talk, “Why Pop Culture?,” he makes a claim that pop culture acts as a common language which couldn’t be more true. Just like the example in the ted talk where he talks about how Star Wars is something that became important to everyone, I believe the same claim can be applied to someone’s favorite movie. Let’s take my favorite movie franchise for example, which is Avatar . The third movie for this franchise is said to come out soon but ever since Avatar: The Way Of The Water came out, I couldn’t help bu...

Literacy History

Image
As a person who used to hate, (emphasis on hate), reading any type of book or writing pointless sentences, I remember my earliest experience with becoming literate was writing homework during the early years of school. I remember having to write down vocabulary word every week and I would have to create sentences for each word. My step dad always ended up helping me with any assignments I had to get done. I always had support from my parents. They always pushed me in my academic life. If I didn’t bring home A’s, I would always end up getting grounded because they believed I could do much better than a B. It was definitely tough love for a while but it paid off because I always felt encouraged to continue and do better in my academics. My earliest experiences with literacy that I can recall would probably be my fifth grade reading class. We had to choose one book for our reading homework and we had to log how many pages we read and we had to read for at leas...
